The EAT.ch Leftover Cookbook: Recipes for Chinese Food

19. October 2018

It happens to the best of us: When ordering food, sometimes our eyes make us order a fair bit more than our stomach can actually handle! And suddenly we are confronted with the pile of leftovers of our delivered menu. But wait: Before you put all of that leftover food in the trash can, look to the EAT.ch leftover cookbook for some new ideas!

Why waste valuable food when you can simply refresh and enjoy it the next day? We've collected the best recipe ideas for recycling your order from the Chinese restaurant:

1. Fried Rice - A classic from the Chinese cuisine

You have too much rice left and not enough sauce? No problem! You can quickly and easily conjure up delicious some fried rice from it. What you need:

  • Rice leftovers
  • meat, tofu or vegetable leftovers
  • 1 egg
  • fresh vegetables (if available), e.g. carrots, onions, peppers, corn... Whatever you can think of!

Preparation:

Heat a little oil in a pan and add all your veggies and meats in one after the other. Fry until the veggies are almost done and add the rice. Mix everything well and fry until the rice is crispy and the vegetables are well done. Now, whisk the egg and pour it over the rice - keep everything in the pan until the egg is no longer liquid.*

Voilà - you can't get better fried rice at a restaurant!

* Veganer können diesen letzten Schritt natürlich einfach weglassen.

2. Make a Chinese burrito out of it!

The Chinese kitchen offers a variety of tasty foods. You get rice, vegetables, protein (meat, tofu, eggs)... So basically everything that makes a good burrito, right?! Here’s what you need:

  • Rice leftovers
  • Meat/tofu leftovers with or without sauce
  • remaining vegetables (stir fry or in sauce)
  • tortillas

Preparation

Fill the tortilla to your heart's content with your ingredients! If desired, you can fry the ingredients and the tortillas in the pan or warm them up in the microwave first. Roll the burrito and enjoy your masterful fusion cuisine!

3. Rice pudding for dessert

Okay, you ate the chicken sweet-sour, the dim sum and also the fried noodles and now look helplessly onto a mountain of leftover rice? No worries! You can make a delicious dessert out of it in no time at all. What you need:

  • Leftover white rice
  • Milk
  • Sugar or sweetener
  • Pinch of salt
  • Vanilla extract (if available)

Preparation

Boil the rice together with the milk, sugar and salt. Once it boils and the sugar has dissolved, reduce to medium heat and simmer until the mixture is thick and creamy (about 15 minutes). Remove the pudding from the heat and stir the vanilla into the pudding.

If desired, garnish the pudding with cinnamon, nutmeg or fresh fruit and then serve it!
